What do you get when you mix a peg board, plastic beads, an iron, and a geek with too much time on their hands?  Nerdalicious real-life sprites, that’s what.

You can order such perler creations online with backings that vary from magnets to velcro to coaster-cork.  Or if you’re feeling saucy, you can try your hand at making a few of your own.  (Pro tip: Press down really hard on the iron to turn all those little cylinders into oversized pixels.)

    I actually have been planning to do something just like this with a toy called “Water Beads” here. Instead of an iron, you use water… it doesn’t work as well, though, so they fall apart.
