Wow. Just wow. Major Nelson stated yesterday that Minecraft surpassed the one million mark in one week, smashing all sorts of digital download records in the process.
Last week, Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson tweeted, “Well then. Saw the official sales numbers for the first 24 hours of Minecraft Xbox 360, and it’s very, very good. Profitable in an hour.” So, congrats… make it rain, Notch! Make it rain.
For comparison’s sake, Castle Crashers (the all-time top selling XBLA game) just surpassed the 2.5 million mark in September 2011 after three years in the Xbox Live Marketplace. While the numbers will surely peter out in the coming weeks, it does seem merely a matter of time. My guess? Fifteen weeks. Who wants to take me up on that?
