New 3DS Castlevania screens shown at Comic-Con

Monday, July 16th, 2012 by

If pictures truly are worth a thousand words, then get ready to look at five thousand words that Konami showed off at the San Diego Comic-Con this year.

Castlevania – Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate boasts four playable characters, three of which have already been revealed. Simon Belmont, Trevor Belmont, and Alucard are cool and all, but who here thinks the game needs more Sonia Belmont? Nobody…? Really? What I meant to say was John Morris. Definitely needs some more John Morris.

Castlevania – Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate (or CVLoSMoF for short…) is coming to Nintendo 3DS sometime in the fall.

lol, Simon and Trevor pretty much played the same, at least back in the day. I’m interested to see how they differ.

I may check this one out. I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

I believe I read somewhere that this would be 3D 2D; something akin to Street Fighter IV. That would probably make it worth picking up if true.

I hadn’t read that myself, but I see it now. That makes me FAR more interested, though I still prefer good ol’ fashion sprites for a game like this.

I loved me some Viewtiful Joe, though, so it’s not like I’m adverse to 2.5D games.

Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about it. It looks like a weird, clunky hybrid of the original Lords of Shadow and classic Castlevania.

That actually looks like it could be fun. I definitely prefer Castlevania when you’re locked to a 2D plane.

Here’s to hoping! Now, will they throw in that sweet Metroidvania formula? I gotta tell ya, I sure wouldn’t mind that.

I hear you there. We haven’t had a Metroidvania since Order of Ecclesia, and that wasn’t very good. I can’t imagine this will be as good as Portrait of Ruin or Symphony of the Night, but we could be surprised.

I really liked Order of Ecclesia, but it definitely paled in comparison to Portrait of Ruin. Honestly, though, I’d like to see a more traditional Castlevania game in the future. Pitfalls, spikes, brutal difficulty… the WiiWare remake of Castlevania Adventure had me longing for days of yore.

Of course, I’d also prefer a traditional Metroid game to come. I haven’t played Metroid: The Other M yet, but I loved the GBA games. It’s just, you know, they don’t do terribly well in Japan. But, man, I could get behind some digital download eShop Metroid.

I hear that. Castlevania Adventure ReBirth was great, at least for a single playthrough. And I’d definitely love to see another Metroid along the lines of Zero Mission and Fusion. The eShop would be perfect for that, preferably for the DSi or 3DS. Portable gaming is just so much more convenient.
