The World Ends with You Teaser

Stay calm, Fade. Keep your hope in check. You can do this without gushing…

Square Enix opened up a teaser site. It’s got one of those stupid countdown clocks that, for whatever reason, we all hate but begrudgingly follow. Most of the time, it’s just an awful letdown. However, this one’s piqued my interest because of the directory name: subaseka.

Unless Square Enix is being really cruel, there’s a good chance this is related to Subarashiki Kono Sekai, the Japanese name for The World Ends with You. While there are literally thousands of games on Nintendo DS, there are very few I’d recommend higher than TWEWY. Hell, there are very few games I’d recommend over it period.

If this turns out to be a port, I’ll be disappointed, but I’ll also understand. The World Ends with You is an outstanding original game that simply didn’t get enough love due to its, let’s say, steep learning curve. It can be really difficult to simultaneously watch two screens, but those who were able to stick it through were treated to terrific, modern game with great atmosphere as they trounced around a slightly-altered Shibuya district. I cannot do the game justice and manage to be brief.

What the hell is going on around here? First, Markham Asylum gets his wish for a Plants vs. Zombies sequel. Now, there’s a chance I might get my wish as well? I fully expect some Dark Cloud 3 news in the immediate future. Are beggars out there riding or something?

One would expect the dual-screen interface to stay intact. If that’s the case, then it looks like the Nintendo 3DS has another game worth playing on the way.

Check out the SubaSeka teaser site here. Is that the 104 building silhouetted in the background? Open up your mind. Focus. Scramble Crossing, here I come.
