New Wasteland 2 Gameplay Footage Makes Me Salivate

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013 by

Oh. My. Glob. My love for Wasteland is well known, so perhaps I’m a bit biased, but if we are to judge based solely on this video, then Wasteland 2 is going to be the ultimate shit of this universe and its release date can’t come soon enough.

Call it what you will; Fallout 2.5, Baldur’s Gate with guns, etc. But don’t call it a waste of Kickstarter money. I can’t wait to descend into the Nevada desert again and reduce my enemies to a thin red paste.

Wasteland 2 is expected to release in October 2013. Secure a copy now, and help further fund this incredible project.

Looks totally worthwhile. I’m eager to see how it turns out.

Peering into my crystal ball, it looks like… yep. It’s going to be awesome.

Wow, looks much better than I had been expecting.

Of course, it also looks like it brings bucketfuls of goofy/stupid Brian Fargo humor. That was the hallmark of Wasteland, and also of Fallout 2 & 3.

Something magical happened with Fallout, it got the tone exactly right in a way that made the entire series — and has yet to be replicated.

          Faran Brygo approves this.

I know it seems little and silly, but I’m happy that it looks like WL2 will bring more of a focus back on the cyborgs n’ robots, an aspect that made WL so awesome to me as a kid, but not touched on as much in any of the Fallout games. The Sierra Army Depot in Fallout 2 was about as close as it got to mimicking the eerie feeling of exploring the automaton infested ruins in WL. Bethesda’s take on robots was, for me, completely off the mark – just an afterthought tacked on in a way that matched the series’ new aesthetic more than anything else.
