Dear internet, enough PS Vita games are out early crap

February 16th, 2012 by

Listen up, nerds. Penny Arcade isn’t the first place I’ve seen people take a stab at the PlayStation Vita for releasing the games a week prior to the system. I’m old enough to remember a time when another portable system had games out a week in advance of the actual system launch.

You may have heard of it.

FYI: Jetpack Joyride glitch finally gets bugfix update.

February 7th, 2012 by

A little late to this, but I figure it’s worth noting if you don’t check the App Store everyday.

Jetpack Joyride has received a bugfix update. As you may recall, it had some GameCenter (and/or OpenFeint) issues where users were losing coins and levels. It wouldn’t have mattered so much if Jetpack Joyride wasn’t the best iOS game of 2011.

Go download and get back to leveling, you sick puppies.

FYI: Global Game Jam 2012

January 28th, 2012 by

Did you know there’s a 48 hour game-off held annually in January by the International Game Developers Association? What’s that? You didn’t know there was an International Game Developers Association! You spoony bard!

Why, I’ve known for all of twenty minutes. I found out on my iPhone. At Starbucks. In a foreign country. I was listening to a band, they’re new and really good and you’ve never heard of them. That’s how hip I am.

Thousands of developers and development teams conceptualize, code, and compile games in the spirit of creativity. To keep the playing field level during this two-day event, each year has a secret theme. This year’s theme?

MAME emulator shows up in the App Store

December 22nd, 2011 by

A new emulator has shown up in the App Store. iOS users, or anyone who would even consider buying an Apple device to play games in the future, head over to the App Store or iTunes and pick up “iMame” while you can. There’s no telling how long this will stick around, but with the annual App Store freeze starting soon, it may be up for a while. Or it may be gone by the time you read this. There’s really no telling.

MAME, for those who don’t know, is an acronym that stands for “Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator” and is very popular with retro gamers who grew up dropping quarters in arcades.

Hurry! Natsume is running a Harvest Moon drawing contest!

December 6th, 2011 by

I’m very, very late to post this, but there’s still time. I’m a very big Harvest Moon fan, and I’d bet dollars to donuts some of you are as well. Natsume, Inc. is having a drawing contest with some pretty cool loot overall, including original art. Details, taken from their Facebook page are as follows:

In celebration of the release of Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns for the Nintendo DS and 3DS, Natsume is having a Harvest Moon Drawing Contest!

Hey, Geronimo! music video a tribute to iOS gaming

December 4th, 2011 by

Australian indie-pop band, “Hey, Geronimo!” are pretty much unknown. Scratch that, WERE pretty much unknown. Then they made this awesome video for their song “Why Don’t We Do Something?”

Five iOS staples are represented and cosplayed to near-perfection.

Correction: Paladog! update already live, worth playing

November 29th, 2011 by

Yesterday, I posted about the update for Paladog! What I wasn’t aware of was that the update I’ve been eagerly anticipating ever since receiving a newsletter update on November 20th was the same one I had downloaded a day or two prior to receiving said e-mail and had yet to boot. Thanks, FazeCat. Next time, maybe you could yell, “Marcia, duck!” after you’ve already hit me in the nose with a football.

Paladog! version 3.0 is live. It has been for over a week, now. My apologies for the mix-up if anyone actually cares. Here are the developer notes from the “What’s New?” page.
