Dark Souls II Trailer Promises Many Deaths

April 11th, 2013 by

You know, the Dark Souls games (Demon’s Souls included) have this weird veneer to them. To the uninitiated, the games can appear a little humdrum or even generic. This trailer doesn’t try very hard to get you pumped; it looks like some pretty standard medieval fare.

But the mere promise of a new Dark Souls game – for those of us who’ve endulged and struggled with the first two – is all it takes to get you ridiculously excited, not to mention discretely terrified. In any other game, a flock of flying dragons probably wouldn’t be much cause for alarm. In Dark Souls, it’s the harbinger of cardiac arrest.

Dark Souls Kicked My Ass A Thousand Times And Made Me Into A Man

Surely by now you’ve heard that Dark Souls, like it’s predecessor Demon’s Souls, is a savagely difficult game. Truth is, while it has no qualms about ripping your self-esteem out of your ass and stomping it like a fat bug, it never does so in a way that feels unfair. When you pitch off a narrow ledge to your doom or get brought down by a mob of weenies, you definitely feel like it’s your fault; especially if you were rushing through the area carelessly. Playing Dark Souls is like driving down a long, terrifying avenue made entirely of speed bumps. If you disrespect the road, it will disrespect you in kind.

Even all star bloggers, like ourselves, can’t get into the beta without pulling in a few favors from Thessalonian Gods and Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto themselves.

Q: So what are mere mortals without deep connections to the underworld or relatives of Blizzard employees to do from now until Diablo III comes out?

A: Play games. Lots of Games.

To help winnow down the selection to choose from, let me give you five suggestions to start with (hit the jump):
