Cursewatch ’13: Megatron breaks Jerry Rice’s record

December 23rd, 2012 by

Calvin Johnson, the Madden NFL 13 cover star, must not understand what it means to be cursed. The Detroit Lions wideout just broke the record for most receiving yards in a single season during the fourth quarter of a nationally-televised game against the Atlanta Falcons. He also may have made the Madden Curse his bitch in the process.

Down 28-16 in the fourth quarter, the Lions were sure to get the man they call Megatron involved. Lions QB Matthew Stafford decided to make things interesting by throwing into Johnson’s vicinity and tossing an awful interception. Way to go, person most responsible for the Lions’ awful record. The Falcons definitely didn’t know you were going to throw to him with just four yards between Megatron and the single-season receiving record.

Check out the nice graphic before the record was broken.

The next drive, down 31-16, Stafford again went to Calvin Johnson on a short pass on 1st and 10. Johnson picked up the record on a 26 yard reception, giving Johnson a gaudy 204 yards for the game.

Sorry, Lions fans. Megatron wins Madden NFL ’13 cover vote.

Oh, Detroit, haven’t you had enough pain in recent years? You were on the rise, what with that Chrysler Eminem commercial and… well… the Lions made the playoffs for the first time since 1999. That was something, right? I mean, the job market’s still just… yeah… but… anyway.

Now your star wide receiver, Calvin Johnson, is on the cover of Madden after beating Cam Newton 52%-48%. Your dreams of a Super Bowl behind Suh, Johnson, and Stafford went out the window. That picture of Johnson needing a little help to get off the field? That’s the past as prologue.

All kidding aside, the Madden curse is really just the law of averages at work.

Madden NFL ’13 Cover Vote now in Finals

April 18th, 2012 by

It’s all come down to this. Calvin Johnson versus Cam Newton in a battle for the cover of Madden NFL 13. Who will be cursed?

You can vote for the cover over on ESPN SportsNation.

Tune in next week to find out which player is going to have an awful year. My guess is this is the year the curse is broken, causing the earth to crumble as demons rise to pull John Madden down into the fiery pits of Hell whence he was born. No, forged… not born.

Madden NFL ’13 Cover Vote Reaches Final Four

April 12th, 2012 by

Congratulations go out to the 28 teams who have avoided the Madden Curse for the 2012-2013 NFL season. You’ve got a shot at reaching Super Bowl XLVII.

However, fans of the Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and San Francisco 49ers may want to hold their breath for a couple of weeks. Panthers’ quarterback, and NFL Rookie of the Year, Cam Newton faces off against 49ers linebacker, and perhaps the NFL’s best inside linebacker, Patrick Willis. Meanwhile, Packers’ quarterback, and the reason no one really misses Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers heads up against the new highest paid receiver  in the NFL in the Lions’ “Megatron” Calvin Johnson.

Notably missing from the top four is every single team in the AFC. Really, AFC, you had 17 of the 32 picks thanks to trades, and you still couldn’t get one team into the final four?

Tim Tebow traded to NY Jets, Madden brackets all messy…

March 21st, 2012 by

Well, that was faster than expected.

As I mentioned about half a day ago, the Madden fan voting bracket is now up and ready to curse the hell out of some unlucky guy. I mentioned that Tim Tebow, the representative for the Denver Broncos, was on the trading block. Well, not anymore, as the Denver Broncos traded Tim Tebow and a seventh round pick for a the New York Jets’ fourth and sixth round picks.

Madden NFL ’13 Cover Voting Opens; Who Will You Curse?

March 21st, 2012 by

For the second year in a row, Electronic Arts has put the Madden Curse in the fans’ hands. There are some interesting choices, though the most interesting has to be Tim Tebow. The Denver Broncos quarterback, whose pose became the phenomena known as “Tebowing,” is currently on the trading block thanks to one Peyton Manning.

Here’s hoping Tebow wins and takes the cover curse with him.

Madden NFL 12 officially cursed Peyton Hillis

November 13th, 2011 by

We at Delta Attack are officially calling Peyton Hillis’ 2011-2012 campaign cursed. With half the season over, Browns RB #40 has just 60 carries for 211 yards and two touchdowns. He has played in four out of the eight games this season and is set to miss today’s game versus the St. Louis Rams.

You may recall Peyton Hillis sat out against the Miami Dolphins with the vile, deadly strep throat virus. Is it a virus? Bacteria? Whatever. Mankind cannot know and scientists only guess for fear their throats would explode were they to come into contact with a sample.
