Last week, I may have mentioned there was a program that made it really easy to modify for Nintendo Wii. I didn’t mention the program by name because, frankly, I didn’t want to give away the keys to Nintendo’s car when The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword leaked early.

The program, ModMii by XFlak, is easy-to-use, downloads almost everything you need (and gives you directions on the things it doesn’t package), and generates a step-by-step guide once everything is finished.

Your requirements are as follows:

Windows PC with an active internet connection
SD card (1 GB is far more than needed)
The ability to read and follow directions in English, Spanish, French, Italian, or Dutch.

Download the .exe in your language of choice over on GBATemp.

Now, I’ll lead you through it. Please note, the pictures are for my case, a Korean Wii running System Menu 4.3 in Korean. You will need to change some settings, but I am giving you examples of what you will see. A majority of you, of course, will not be running System Menu 4.3K.

As it states, you will need to type in "I Agree" and press the Enter Key to continue.

Care to donate to XFlak?

Now, insert the SD card into your Wii, follow the guide, and you’re done. Follow all instructions in the generated guide exactly as written. It makes it simple and tells you the proper order to install these files.

Your Nintendo Wii is now prepared to run homebrew. This opens up a new world of functionality, from media players to emulators (*cough*Mother3*cough*) and, yes, USB Loaders. If you care to install a USB Loader to run games off of a USB External Hard Drive, re-start ModMii and follow the instructions there.

ModMii is a great tool, likely the best available, for people looking to softmod their Wii. The program even checks for updates, just in case some new development does come down the wire, and is as painless to use as it is bland to look at.
